Water Main Break Shuts Down Subway Service on the 6 Line in the Bronx

A water main break in the Bronx shut down service on the No. 6 subway line in the borough for hours Wednesday, according to the MTA.

The main broke at East 143rd Street around 10:30 a.m., flooding much of the station with water. Video posted to social media from inside a subway showed water gushing outside the train car.

Service on the 6 line was suspended in both directions between 125th Street, the last stop in Manhattan on the line, and Hunts Point Avenue, for about three hours. The water had to be shut off and crews had to work to flush it from the station; once it receded, crews had to assess potential damage to equipment.

Service resumed shortly aftet 1:15 p.m. with extensive delays.
