Outdoor recess was canceled for much of the day Monday at the Old Turnpike Middle School in Tewksbury because of a bear threat.
A bear was spotted at a trash bin one street away, and it was soon seen wandering in the direction of the school. Officials decided to keep the children inside.
Police gave the all-clear by mid-afternoon when it was determined the bear had finally wandered away.
