Police are searching for a robber captured on surveillance video violently attacking a woman walking alone on the Lower East Side.
The 32-year-old woman was walking in the area of Essex and Hester streets at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 when the suspect approached her from behind and pushed her to the ground, police said.
He snatched her purse containing her cellphone, credit cards and cash, then ran away.
Video released by police shows the woman attempting to fight off her attacker, holding steadfastly to her purse as he yanks her around on the snow-covered sidewalk. He's finally able to pull the purse out of her grip, then flees.
The victim refused medical attention at the scene.
The suspect was wearing a green snorkel jacket, police said.
