Vintage Ammo Unearthed at New Jersey College Campus

Workers at a construction site on the campus of a New Jersey college unearthed a bombshell -- actually, it was a vintage World War I ammunition shell.

New Jersey State Police cleared the the area, a site near the main building of the Middlesex County College. Specialists took an X-ray of the shell, but said it was too eroded to determine whether it had been a live shell.

Portions of the campus were built on the site of the former U.S. Army Raritan Arsenal, which closed in 1963.

In April, workers discovered a 500-pound World War II bomb while excavating a site on campus for a new enrollment center.
