Traffic Moving on Van Wyck Expressway After Fatal Crash

A fatal cash involving a tractor trailer on the Van Wyck Expressway caused serious delays on the traffic artery Wednesday morning.

At least one person was killed in the crash on the expressway near Flushing Meadows Corona Park just before 5 a.m., authorities say.

The NYPD says that a tractor trailer and a second vehicle were involved. It's not clear what caused the crash.

It's not clear if there were additional injuries.

The crash caused delays throughout the morning rush Wednesday, with cars snaking back past the Long Island Expressway at one point. The highway's southbound lanes reopened at about 8:30 a.m., but delays were expected to persist throughout the morning.

Motorists are advised to use the Grand Central Parkway if possible.
