Man Grew Pot in Upstate New York Monastery Cabin: Cops

State police say a 31-year-old man overstayed his welcome at an upstate New York monastery and spent the time growing marijuana.

Troopers say they received a report of a man trespassing at a cabin at the Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery in the rural Otsego County town of Otego, 75 miles southwest of Albany.

Police say Christopher Davis of Otego had been allowed to stay a few nights at the monastery, which is home to a monastic community for women of the Orthodox Church in America. But troopers say Davis refused to leave for more than two weeks.

When he finally did leave, troopers say he left behind pot plants he was growing inside the cabin. Police arrested him Tuesday night and charged with trespassing and unlawfully growing marijuana.

It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
