Upstate New York Man Set Pit Bull Puppy on Fire: Police

Authorities have charged a New York man with setting a puppy on fire and they have accused his friend of waiting two days before seeking medical attention for the injured canine.

State police say a veterinarian in Saratoga County reported that a 9-month-old pit bull had suffered burns to its head.

Troopers say they determined that on Feb. 9, a 19-year-old man from Halfmoon threw a flammable liquid on the dog and then lit it with matches. Police say the second man, also 19 and from Halfmoon, was aware of the injuries but didn't take the dog to the vet for two days.

The first man was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, while the other was charged with failure to provide sustenance.

The dog was later taken to the county animal shelter.
