Uber is partnering with online flash sales site Gilt City to offer New York City commuters rides in Manhattan during peak hours at less cost than a trip on the subway.
The flat-rate commute cards, part of a summer promotion, let users take unlimited uberPOOL riders in Manhattan, below 125th street, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
The cards can be bought on Gilt City's website starting Tuesday, and the promotion runs through August. Users can opt for a two-week unlimited card for $49, a four-week card for $79 or an eight-week card for $159.
By comparison, two weeks of a weekly unlimited MetroCard would cost $62. A monthly subway pass is $116.50 so ... you do the math.
Currently, uberPOOL trips in the part of Manhattan covered by the promotion cost $5 a week.
“We are hoping to make commuting in the hot summer just a little bit easier by expanding our $5 uberPOOL flat-rate option to include unlimited uberPOOL rides in Manhattan for the first time ever,” Josh Mohrer, general manager of Uber NYC, told AMNY.
