2 Killed, 3 Wounded in Drive-By Newark Shootings: DA

Five people were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Newark Friday, two fatally, prosecutors say.

The victims were shot outside a school in the area of 18th Avenue and Livingston, according to the Essex County prosecutor's office.

Clifton Purkett, 36, of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene and Rashid W. Pryor, 37, of Plainfield was pronounced dead after being taken to University Hospital.

The three who wounded but survived were a 34-year-old Irvington man and two Newark men who were 39 and 45.

The DA's office said that a preliminary investigation indicates that at least some of the victims were targeted.
