A civil trial is expected to begin for two former New York City police detectives who shot two young men to death 14 years ago.
Opening arguments were scheduled for Friday in the case against James Crowe and Patrick Brosnan.
The Bronx shooting inflamed tensions during the Giuliani administration.
The officers were responding to a tip that a robbery was going to take place. They fired 28 times, hitting 21-year-old Hilton Vega and 18-year-old Anthony Rosario in the back.
A police investigation found the officers acted within department guidelines. But a civilian oversight board found they used excessive force.
The families of Hilton and Vega are seeking $10 million in damages.
Both officers retired from the force in 1996.
