Sanitation Dept. Finds Engagement Ring, Earrings in Staten Island Trash: Report

The Dept. of Sanitation searched a heap of trash for a Staten Island woman's missing engagement ring and earrings, reports say.

The department was contacted Thursday morning by Jennifer DeStefano about her jewelry, which she said was placed in the garbage that was put out for collection on Ocean Avenue, according to the Staten Island Advance.

"Talk about looking for a needle in a haystack," Dept. of Sanitation spokesman Vito Turso told the Advance.

Less than 10 hours after they were reported missing, the ring and earrings were recovered during a 30-minute search at the Staten Island Transfer Station, the Advance reported.
