A man was smacked by a tractor-trailer in front of dozens of restaurant customers eating dinner and left face down in the middle of a busy Upper West Side intersection.

The 37-year-old man was hit by the truck Wednesday evening at 81st Street and Amsterdam Avenue, sending onlookers who witnessed the horror desperately searching for help.

“I heard this big thump,“ witness Bob Girardo said at the scene. “We looked outside, the guy was laying out in the street. This guy was not moving.”

The driver of the semi continued up one block after the man was hit, but officials say the driver did remain on the scene and was being questioned by police.

The victim, meanwhile, was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition, fighting for his.

“It was pretty serious,” a second witness, Frank Spadavecchia, said. “It sort of brings your whole mood down.”
