More than a dozen people were hurt when a double-decker tour bus crashed into a tree on the eastern border of Central Park on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
The open-top bus was traveling at Fifth Avenue and East 63rd Street when police said a taxi cut it off. The vehicle swerved, jumped a curb and hit a tree head-on.
Ten of the 13 people injured were taken to hospitals, but their injuries were not believed to be serious.
Photos from the scene show the bus, which had logos for NY Tours, smashed head-on into the tree. Debris litters the ground and pieces of the front of the bus appear to have fallen off.
Chopper 4 showed people being taken from the scene on stretchers.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Bus operator GO New York Tours said it's operated thousands of tours safely in its four years of operation.
"We deeply regret the distress caused by this incident and our thoughts are with the affected families and friends of those involved," the company said in a statement, adding that it was cooperating with police in their investigation. "We are grateful to local authorities for acting quickly to care for those who were injured."
