Nathaniel Fons, 3, was dropped off at St. Patrick's Cathedral two days after he went missing in Florida.

A 3-year-old Florida boy abandoned at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York last week is back with his paternal grandparents' for the time being.

A judge in Flagler County on Friday determined it was in Nathaniel Fons' best interests to stay with his grandparents, Donald and Frieda Fons, while the court decides custody issues over the next several months.

Both of the boy's parents currently are in jail. The grandparents live in Land O Lakes, north of Tampa.

Nathaniel was found last week by security guards at the New York cathedral with a note in his hand bearing the name and number of a Florida detective.

His mother, Erin Comeau, was arrested in Flagler County, Florida, on counterfeit charges and said her friends had been traveling with Nathaniel.
