A state senator from the Bronx has a new proposal in response to concerns about topless women in Times Square: make it illegal for anyone — male or female — to go topless in public.
Democratic Sen. Ruben Diaz says Friday that he will introduce legislation to prohibit toplessness for both genders in all public places except beaches. Diaz, an ordained minister, says the ban would apply to men also for equality's sake.
The nearly nude women in Times Square pose for tourist photos in exchange for cash and often wear only body paint and a thong. Public toplessness is legal in New York.
Mayor de Blasio has convened a task force to address what he calls the "growing problem" of topless women and costumed characters in Times Square.
