Fordham Student Whose ID Was Found by Tom Hanks: ‘It's Pretty Cool!'

A Fordham student whose lost ID was found by Oscar-winning actor Tom Hanks said the coincidence is "pretty cool" but she'd already paid for a replacement.

Lauren Whitmore told NBC's "TODAY" that she began hearing from friends and professors Tuesday afternoon after Hanks tweeted a photo of her lost ID with the caption, "Lauren! I found your Student ID in the park. If you still need it my office will get to you. Hanx."

"I checked my email and I had an email from one of my professors," Whitmore said. "So I opened it and it said, 'You're famous!'"

Whitmore, who doesn't have a Twitter account, said that she had heard from people she hadn't talked to in years about her ID along with complete strangers as far away as England.

"It's pretty cool!," she said.

She told "TODAY" that she already bought a new ID, but was hoping that after getting her old one back from Hanks, she could get a refund for the $20 replacement.

It's not clear if Whitmore has gotten in touch with Hanks or his staff.
