Toddler Found Wandering Alone in Battery Park City

The NYPD says a 3-year-old boy was wandering alone in Battery Park City and his mother was later found and taken to a hospital.

The toddler, whose name NBC New York is electing to withhold, was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Monday in Teardrop Park. He was examined at a hospital and placed in the custody of the Administration for Children's Services.

It was unclear how long the boy had been alone before he was found, but the mother was located by Monday afternoon.

Police say his 20-year-old mother was admitted as an emotionally disturbed person at Bellevue Hospital. Her name was not released.

Police say they have been in contact with the boy's grandmother in New Jersey.
