Times Square Roach Eating Contest

Ripley's Serves Up Halloween Crunchies

It should come as no surprise that New Yorkers were once known for eating their food live, Mark Kurlansky observed in his bivalve historical " The Big Oyster."

So, if you happen to find yourself in Times Square on Halloween, there seems to be only one appropriate meal.
Live roaches. At least that's the philosophy at Ripley's Believe it or Not Odditorium, which will be serving the crunchy critters on Halloween from 2 to 6 p.m.

And if eating a live cockroach isn’t reward enough in itself, the first 20 people to eat a roach will get free admission to the museum for the day.The cockroaches will be served by white-gloved waiters, and condiments are not allowed.

Adult tickets are normally priced at $24.99 and children at $18.99. The Odditorium is located at 234 West 42nd Street . However, through Halloween, children wearing costumes will be allowed in free for each paying adult.
