Authorities say they arrested a man after a 48-year-old woman was walloped, sending her to the hospital with a laceration to her face, after she accidentally bumped him near the turnstiles at a Times Square subway station over the weekend, cops say.
Surveillance video released by police shows the woman, later identified as 36-year-old Carl Louis, walk by the suspect at the 42nd Street A train station around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. She apparently bumps him slightly, then he whirls around, fist outstretched, to punch her in the face.
The victim, Nucian Butler, told News 4 that the man attacked her seemingly out of nowhere, leaving her with an open gash on her head.
"I was walking over to the gate," she said. "He just came over and blindsided me and punched me in the side of the head."
She added, "I hit the ground and he went through the turnstile anyway."
Butler was treated at a nearby hospital for the facial laceration.
"He coulda killed somebody," she said. "He coulda killed me."
Police say they have charged Louis with second-degree assault.
