Hail, Rain Fall Across Tri-State Area

Many counties were under a severe thunderstorm watch

Severe weather brought a downfall of hail in places north of New York City Tuesday night, including in Sullivan County.

The golf ball-size chunks of hail were just part of an intense weather night that started to unfold around sunset.

As the sun went down, the tri-state area saw heavy downpours as the storm system rolled east.

Along Main Street in Paterson, N.J., the rain started suddenly and with force. The driving precipitation didn't last long, but the clouds behind the rain showers could be seen for miles around the area.

There were some scattered power outages across New York, New Jersey and Connecticut after the storm Tuesday night.

There were also significant airport delays forming at Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark as flight traffic was having to circumnavigate over storms to the west. Delays were expected to worsen.
