Light rain fell on the city and the surrounding area Monday night after a line of strong thunderstorms moved in during the afternoon, bringing torrential rain and threatening flooding for hours.

Pop-up showers hit the city, where Brooklyn and Queens experienced moderate rain at various points during the day, but Suffolk County was walloped later.

By around 8 p.m., showers had moved past New Jersey, but the city was still experiencing some lingering showers, according to Storm Team 4. The showers pushed out before midnight.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for Suffolk and central Nassau counties warning of downpours, lightning and potential winds in excess of 30 mph through mid-afternoon.

A flood advisory was issued for Suffolk County, though Storm Team 4 said any flooding was expected to be minor. Check the latest severe weather alerts for your neighborhood here, and track the rain using our interactive radar below.
