Funeral Held for NJ Trooper Struck by Car

Thousands pay respects

Law enforcement officers from as far away as California and Texas were among the thousands paying homage Saturday to a New Jersey state trooper killed in the line of duty last weekend.

Gov. Chris Christie, Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, state Senate President Stephen Sweeney and state Attorney General Paula Dow were also among those attending the funeral service for Marc Castellano at The Church of St. Veronica in Howell.

The 29-year-old married father of two preschoolers who was hit by a car Sunday morning on Interstate 195 in Howell while assisting in a search for two people believed to have abandoned a vehicle. He died later that day at Jersey Shore Medical Center.

Stretches of several major area roadways were closed to accommodate the extended funeral procession.
