The Family That Steals Together, Stays Together

A total of 3 adults have been charged with the family-style burglary

A mom and dad in Queens have been charged with carrying out two armed burglaries with their children in tow, law enforcement officials said.

Police have charged three adults – two men and a woman – with burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

The female suspect, Erika Santa, 23, allegedly drove the getaway minivan after the two men, Hugo Lantigua, 22 and Pedro Camillo, 19, broke into two apartments in Maspeth and Woodside, Queens, District Attorney Richard A. Brown said.

Inside the getaway van were Santa’s 4-year-old daughter and her 5-month-old child with Lantingua, authorities said.

“These are disturbing allegations. Burglary is a serious crime in and of itself. It is unthinkable that a mother and father would put their children in harm’s way while allegedly committing these crimes,” Brown said.

There was also a loaded handgun found in the van, law enforcement officials said.

The defendants face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
