The boy was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he is in critical condition with back and neck injuries

A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition after plunging four stories from an Inwood building, fire officials said.

The boy fell Saturday night at a building on West 204th Street in Inwood, the FDNY said. He was taken to Harlem Hospital, where he is in critical condition with back and neck injuries.

The circumstances of the fall were unclear.

Neighbors told the New York Post  it "sounded like a bomb" when the boy fell from the roof of his grandmother's apartment building.

"He was screaming," said Jiselle Nunez, 25.

The boy suffered a broken leg and neck and back injuries, the newspaper reported.

Authorities are investigating.
