Teen Convicted of Murder in Shooting of NYC Bus Passenger

A 15-year-old gang member has been convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of a fellow passenger on a New York City bus.

A jury convicted Kahton Anderson in Brooklyn on Monday of charges including second-degree murder and attempted assault.

The Brooklyn teen faces 15 years to life in prison at his Feb. 18 sentencing.

Anderson was on a B15 bus on March 21, 2014 when he and several other teens got into a fight. He pulled out a revolver and fired several shots, one hitting 39-year-old Angel Rojas in the head, prosecutors say.

Rojas was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died not long after. Anderson was arrested at the scene.

Prosecutors say that when Anderson was being questioned, he asked if he had shot one of the boys, who were in a rival gang, or a bystander.

Lawyers said that Anderson shot at three rival gang members on the bus and didn't mean to hit Rojas. The retrial focused on whether Anderson thought they were about to attack him.

Anderson, a member of the Stack Money Goons gang, had said he acted in self-defense after other gang members had shot at him that day.
