2 Men Sought in Teen's Rock Beating Death Caught Upstate

Antonio Lyles died a day after being taken to the hospital with severe head trauma

Two men wanted for beating a teenager to death with a rock after the 17-year-old fired a gun at a group outside a Bronx housing project have been captured in an upstate city, authorities said.

The U.S. Marshals Service's New York-New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force tells local media outlets that Xavier Goodson and Dennis Neal, both 20, were taken into custody as they walked on a street in Utica Thursday afternoon.

The NYPD says the two men were among the suspects who used a large rock to beat Antonio Lyles on Monday.

Police say Lyles opened fire on the group outside the Edenwalk Houses. No one was hit and the men started chasing him. They followed Lyles into a building and started bashing his head with a large rock, police have said.

The NYPD's violent felony unit learned Goodson and Neal had fled the city shortly after the killing, and the Marshals traced them to Utica.

Lyles had been arrested at the hospital on criminal weapons possession and assault charges in connection with the initial gunfire, but died a short time later.
