Teacher Collapses, Dies in Classroom

Math Teacher, 63, Dies in Stamford Classroom

Counseling is being offered at a Stamford middle school after a 63-year-old math teacher collapsed and died in his classroom.

Eighth-grade students found Vincent Sheridan unresponsive in his Cloonan Middle School classroom early Monday, and he was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.

His cause of death was not immediately disclosed.

School officials say Sheridan was a teacher for 37 years and was nicknamed "Sarge" because of his disciplined classroom and willingness to lead.

They say students and fellow teachers were stunned by Sheridan's death, and that counselors and psychologists are working with people to help them cope with their grief.
