Bronx Substitute Teacher Charged With Forcible Touching

The 27-year-old substitute teacher becomes the fourth school district employee charged with inappropriately touching a student in just a matter of weeks.

Another New York City school teacher has been arrested for allegedly touching a student inappropriately, police say.

Chukwuma Duru, a substitute teacher at Bronx Career and College Prep High School, was arrested Feb. 13. He was charged with forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

The name of his attorney wasn't immediately available.

The Department of Education said the Feb. 9 incident involved a student at the school. The 27-year-old teacher was immediately removed from the school and the DoE said it was cooperating with the police investigation.

Duru has no history of investigations or arrests. He had been substituting at the Bronx school since December.

The charges of forcible touching against Duru come in the wake of three other arrests of New York City school district employees on sex abuse charges in recent weeks.

A 49-year-old computer teacher at PS 174 in Rego Park, Queens, was arrested Thursday on allegations he sexually abused two young boys at the school.

A teacher's aide at PS 243 in Brooklyn, was arrested Feb. 7 for allegedly abusing children, including making pornography with them, and another teacher's aide at PS 87 on the Upper West Side was arrested Feb. 10 on suspicion he sexually abused a child at the school.
