Newburgh Teacher, 44, Accused of Raping Student, 13

    Under the Tucson Sun

A 44-year-old substitute school teacher in Newburgh, N.Y. is accused of raping her 13-year-old student, police said.

New Windsor Police say the parents of the middle school student suspected the teacher, Lisa Franklin, had an inappropriate relationship with their son at Sacred Heart School when they found suggestive text messages on his phone.

New Windsor detectives, who began an investigation in February, believe that Franklin and the boy had sexual contact beginning when he was 12.
Officials say Franklin and the boy were involved in numerous sexual acts.

Franklin has been charged with second-degree rape and course of sexual conduct against a child.

Police could not immediately say whether she had an attorney.
