A tiny dog was rescued after being thrown out of a window of a car on the Bronx River Parkway.
The Yorkie was tossed out of a car on the Bronx River Parkway on July 5. The dog was found injured and bleeding, and local firefighters took him to Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge in Oakland, New Jersey.
Not knowing if the dog was male or female, shelter volunteers named it Sydney. Later they discovered the dog is a female, likely between 5 and 8 years old, NorthJersey.com reported.
"She was shaking and very, very scared," Frannie Laurita, the volunteer manager for the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, told the newspaper. "She had clearly never been loved before and was severely neglected. She broke my heart right away."
Her coat was soaked in urine and she suffered from lacerations, along with rotten teeth, a heart murmur and inch-long curled nails.
But she had no broken bones or internal injuries, an exam found.
Laurita will care for Syndey until she is ready for adoption.

"She is getting used to being treated nicely," Laurita said.
No one has been arrested for her abuse.
