Police Rescue Injured Swan With Fish Hook Stuck in Mouth

Police rescued an injured swan that had a fish hook stuck in its bill and a fishing line around its neck Wednesday, using a local man's boat to reach the bird.

Suffolk County police responded to a 911 call Wednesday morning in West Babylon for a report of an injured swan in Santapogue Creek that could not eat or defend itself.

Marine Bureau officers arrived to find the swan in waters too shallow for the police boat.

A local man offered his 14-foot boat for the officers to reach the swan, and they were able to remove the hook and line from the bird.
