Suspect Shot After Firing at Police During Brooklyn Chase: Officials

A 23-year-old man was shot by NYPD officers after a police source tells NBC 4 New York he opened fire on them during a chase in Brooklyn Monday morning.

Officers responded to a call about a disorderly group near Van Siclen and Liberty avenues in East New York around 4:30 a.m. and, when they approached the group, the 23-year-old man ran off. Police ran after him and, at one point in the chase, he turned around and fired three shots at the officers, the police source said.

The suspect started running again, then turned around and fired another shot at police, the source said. At that point, police returned fire, shooting the suspect in the stomach.

The officers were not hurt. It wasn't immediately clear how many of them fired their weapons.

The suspect was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.
