New Jersey's Supreme Court is set to consider a challenge to a state directive that bans the distribution of voter information cards at polling sites.
The American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey says the ban violates free speech and voter rights.
New Jersey's Attorney General's Office issued the directive in 2007, saying polling places need to be free of political influence of any kind.
The ACLU says its wallet-sized voter cards are not political in nature. They provide voters with basic information and tell them who to call for help if they have problems voting.
A state appeals court ruled in August that the AG's directive does not stifle constitutional rights.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case Tuesday.
