A Long Island woman has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities said she abandoned two severely ill pit bull puppies.
The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says 21-year-old Swaneka P.J. Danzler admitted that she dumped the puppies at the Riverhead Animal Hospital on Dec. 18.
The SPCA says the puppies had severe mange and were near death when they were dumped in a 6-foot well. One of the puppies later died.
SPCA Chief Roy Gross called the dumping of the puppies "a blatant act of cruelty and abandonment"
It was not clear whether Danzler had an attorney.
