Rider Stands Up to Man in Sexist Subway Rant, Gets Slashed All Over Body: Police

A man fed up with another man's rude, sexist rant against a female subway rider in Manhattan Thursday told the man to move to another train, prompting a confrontation that ended with a slashing, authorities say.

Police say the suspect had been yelling on the A train for awhile, getting in one woman's face and insulting her while spewing sexist and offensive comments about women as a whole, before the victim stood up to him.

The men started arguing at the 34th Street and Eighth Avenue stop around 3 p.m. Someone stepped on someone's foot, and the suspect slashed the 42-year-old victim with an unknown object on the left side of his chest, forehead, shoulder and arm, officials say.

The suspect fled when the train stopped at Port Authority and remains at large.

The victim was taken to the hospital, but he is expected to be OK.

Subway riders credited the victim for standing up to the suspect, but said they weren't sure they'd be able to do the same.
