Subways Bypass Port Authority After Another Suicide

Trains on the A, C and E lines bypassed the 42nd Street-Port Authority Bus Terminal stop for nearly an hour Monday after a man jumped in front of a train at the height of the morning rush, authorities said.

The man, described as emotionally disturbed, was pronounced dead at the scene after jumping in front of the E train shortly before 9 a.m., police said.

Heavy service disruptions were reported, with southbound A and C trains running express from 59th Street to Canal Street, and southbound E trains running express from 50th Street to Canal -- all bypassing Port Authority -- as police and fire officials investigated.

Trains resumed regular service by about 10 a.m., but lingering delays were reported.

Last week, subway lines were disrupted in midtown when a man jumped to his death in front of a train at the Times Square-42nd Street subway station.
