Student Stabbed at Mount Vernon High School: Police

A student is in custody after stabbing a fellow student at a Westchester County high school on Wednesday morning, officials say.

The victim was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with non life-threatening wounds after the stabbing at Mount Vernon High School, and was expected to survive, officials said.

The Mount Vernon Mayor said the alleged stabber was in custody on Wednesday afternoon.

Both were students of Mount Vernon High School, he said.

Students said word of the attack quickly spread through the halls, and Mount Vernon High School was locked down.

"The librarian told me about it," student Thomas Brooks said.

"I was in the library and he was like, 'Somebody got stabbed.'"

Brooks said the victim was stabbed in the back.

Meanwhile, parents raced to collect their children after learning that a student had been stabbed just outside the front doors.

"I'm nervous, very nervous," mother Jean Parish said.

"I'm shaking like a leaf. I want to get him out, I want to know that he's safe."

The mayor said the stabbing appeared to have started with a prior issue between the students.
