Driver Arrested in Deadly L.I.E. Crash That Tied Up Traffic for Hours: Police

A 34-year-old Queens man is facing manslaughter and DWI charges after he allegedly hit and killed a man who was fixing his bumper outside his car in an HOV lane on the Long Island Expressway Thursday morning, police say.

The victim had been driving his Toyota Camry eastbound in the HOV lane of the L.I.E. when he struck the median near exit 41 in Jericho, Nassau Police said. 

The driver stepped outside his car to tie up his bumper when he was struck by a Ford SUV and then a Nissan Altima, police said. 

The victim was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The driver of the Ford SUV, Bonifacio Enriquez, was arrested on the scene and taken to a local hospital. He's expected to be arraigned "as soon as medically practical," police said.

The accident tied up traffic for hours as police investigated.
