Driver Strikes, Kills Staten Island Pedestrian: Cops

James Benedict was walking in the bicycle lane on Lily Pond Avenue on the South Shore at 10 p.m. when a driver hit him from behind

A 39-year-old driver faces drunk-driving charges after a 67-year-old man was hit and killed while walking on a bike lane on Staten Island Sunday night. 

Michael Pogorzelski was charged with driving while intoxicated after his Lexus sedan hit James Benedict from behind on Lily Pond Avenue on the South Shore about 10 p.m., the NYPD says. Benedict died on arrival to the hospital.

It's not clear whether Pogorzelski has an attorney.
