Worker Dies in Elevator Fall on Staten Island Cargo Ship

The accident happened Saturday morning on board the on the Rio de Janeiro Cargo Express ship

A worker has died in a fall down an elevator shaft on a cargo ship docked in New York City.

The Staten Island Advance reports that the accident happened Saturday morning on board the on the Rio de Janeiro Cargo Express ship. The shop was docked at a Staten Island container terminal.

The Advance said the man was trapped between the elevator and a wall before someone was lowered down to free him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the victim was 64 years old. They did not immediately release his name.
