FEMA Funds Going to Fix Sandy-Battered Staten Island Beaches

Millions of dollars will go to restoring some beaches on Staten Island damaged by Sandy, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday.

Cuomo said the state will target $5.9 million of FEMA funding toward raising sand levels and restoring dunes at New Dorp Beach, South Beach, Cedar Grove and Oakwood.

The contract for the work is expected to be given out soon, and the restoration will begin shortly after.
