Bronx Senator Returning $27K Contrib from Felon's Co.

Sen. Jeffrey Klein will redistribute the money to charity

Powerful state Sen. Jeffrey Klein is returning $27,500 in campaign contributions from a company run by a man convicted decades ago of a felony.

Klein's spokesman, Eric Soufer, says the money will be redirected to charity.

Klein represents the Bronx and part of Westchester and is a leader of the Independent Democratic Conference. The IDC is part of an unprecedented alliance with Republicans to share power and run the Senate.

The contribution was first reported by The Riverdale Press after its investigation. Klein announced he would send the money to a charity to maintain the highest ethical standards.

Klein is one of Albany's most adept fundraisers. He easily won re-election this fall and is now one of the two leaders in a bipartisan coalition ruling the Senate.
