Driver Hit 100 MPH During Chase Before Crashing in New Jersey: Police

Police in New Jersey have charged two people who they say were involved in a 100 mph police chase that resulted in a crash and drug arrest.

A 30-year-old North Plainfield man has been charged with multiple offenses including eluding, possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended license.

His passenger, a 29-year-old Lakewood woman, has been charged with possession of drugs.

Police say Morris County Park Police were conducting a DWI checkpoint on Aug. 25 when a vehicle was stopped by police for a moving violation. Police say the driver fled on Interstate 287 before leaving the highway and crashing into a telephone pole.

Police say the driver reached speeds as high as 100 mph before he and his passenger were apprehended.
