Special Delivery: Car Smashes Hole into L.I. Post Office

A Long Island post office worker who was late for his job should be thanking his lucky stars.

A sports utility vehicle went off the road and crashed through the wall of the post office on Babylon Turnpike in Roosevelt just before 7 a.m. Monday.

The impact brought down a heap of bricks and cinderblock.

Postal employee Terry Owens of Levittown, N.Y., said his desk is right on the other side of the wall where the car came through.

He's usually at work by that time, but said he was late on Monday because his mother was in the hospital.

"I would have been dead ... I would have been gone," Owens said.
