Somerville Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Fatally Stabbing Girlfriend

A man who fatally stabbed his girlfriend during an argument at her apartment has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Oscar Barrantes-Sequeira will have to serve more than 18 years of the sentence imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole.

The Somerville man had pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the November 2014 death of 47-year-old Sarah Ross-Salardino. Her body was found inside her Somerville apartment by police after they were asked to check on her welfare.

Authorities have said Barrantes-Sequeira and Ross-Salardino were arguing when the dispute turned physical. But they have not said what sparked the dispute.

The victim's family attended the sentencing and grew angry when Barrantes-Sequeira declined to apologize to them.
