Patriotism was held close to Army Cpl. Benjamin Kopp’s heart. And now due to his heroic acts, a Winnetka woman has a second chance at life.

Another soldier from New Jersey has been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced Sunday that Sgt. Ronald A. Kubik of Brielle and another soldier died Friday in the Logar province from wounds sustained while conducting combat operations.

Both soldiers were assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment based at Fort Benning, Ga.

Family and friends say the 21-year-old Kubik was a smart, charismatic person who always played against expectations. An avid fisherman, he was a 2006 graduate of Manasquan High School and a member of the school wrestling team.
