Snow-Covered Roof Collapses on Sleeping Residents in New Jersey

The snow-covered roof of an apartment building in New Jersey collapsed onto sleeping residents late Thursday, scattering families out into the cold at night.

Authorities and residents said the roof on the two-story building in Kearny gave way at about 11:30 p.m., with a loud bang.

"We looked outside and there were bricks everywhere," said one woman who lived in the four-family building.

All 12 people inside evacuated the building as police and firefighters arrived. No one was injured.

Emergency crews shut off the utilities in the building and the owner said he was most concerned about getting the residents back into their homes.

"Hopefully we can get this fixed and them back in as soon as possible," said Frank Greco.
