Bronx Sneaker Store Robber Loses Gun, Gets Chased: NYPD

Police are looking for the man who had his gun taken from him during an attempted robbery at a Bronx sneaker store last week and then was nearly chased down by a good Samaritan while trying to get away.

The masked robber hit the Black Era store in Melrose at about 10 a.m. Aug. 15, pulling out a gun and demanding the store’s owner fill a knapsack with cash.

Police say the store owner put $100 in the bag, but grabbed the robber’s gun when the alarm went off while the suspect was demanding a pair of sneakers.

The robber then took off his mask and fled the store. A witness nearby saw the man running and chased after him. He couldn’t keep up, and police say the robber got away.

Surveillance footage from the scene (above) shows the witness chasing the robber.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
