Charges Against Westchester Man Upgraded to Murder

Christopher Howson was arraigned at Sleepy Hollow Village Court on Monday

Charges against a Westchester County man accused of choking his wife have been upgraded to second-degree murder.

Christopher Howson was arraigned at Sleepy Hollow Village Court on Monday.

His wife, Theresa Gorski of Sleepy Hollow, died last week after being taken off life support.

If convicted, Howson faces 25 years to life in prison.

He had been charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree strangulation.

Police said the 49-year-old suspect attempted to strangle his wife in their home on Jan. 5. They say he then called 911.

Police responded and found the 47-year-old woman unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

Authorities say the couple's two daughters, ages 5 and 8, were home at the time.
