Sister-in-Law of Alan Dershowitz Killed in NYC

A retired Manhattan State Supreme Court special referee who was the sister-in-law of a prominent lawyer has died after being struck by a U.S. Postal Service truck while riding her bike.

Police say Marilyn Dershowitz was killed Saturday after being struck near West 29th Street and Ninth Avenue. The truck drove off, apparently unaware of the fatal accident.

The 68-year-old woman retired in December. She had overseen divorce trials, including the proceedings of Dr. Nicholas Bartha and his wife.

The physician blew up their East Side town house and killed himself in 2006 so that his former wife could not benefit from its sale.

Dershowitz was the sister-in-law of Alan Dershowitz, a well-known attorney at Harvard University.

The truck driver was later identified, but has not been charged.
